About Our Church in Spokane Valley, WA
Mission, Beliefs & History
The Light House is a growing, non-denominational church in Spokane Valley, WA, planted in 2021. We are committed to biblical Christianity, the authority and sufficiency of Scripture, and the faithful proclamation of Jesus Christ.
Our Mission:
The Light House Church exists to glorify God by:
Preaching Christ faithfully.
Making disciples intentionally.
Walking in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Leading people into friendship with God.
We are a church devoted to the Word of God, dependent on the Spirit of God, and centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our Beliefs:
The Light House Church in Spokane Valley, WA is rooted in historic Christian orthodoxy and shaped by the Five Solas of the Protestant Reformation-
1. Sola Scriptura — Scripture Alone
2. Sola Gratia — Grace Alone
3. Sola Fide — Faith Alone
4. Solus Christus — Christ Alone
5. Soli Deo Gloria — God’s Glory Alone
We are continuationist in our understanding of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and affirm a complementarian view of men and women in church leadership.
The following summarizes the core doctrines we confess:
The Trinity.
God is one, eternal, and self-existent in three persons: Father, Son, & Holy Spirit.
The Father- God the Father is the creator and sustainer of all things, and He created the universe in love. He created man in His own image for fellowship and called man back to Himself through Christ after the rebellion and fall of man.
The Son- Jesus is the Messiah prophesied, the one and only God, in the exact representation of God, fully human and fully God. He was born from a virgin, lived a sinless life, and He died and rose again to reconcile all people to God and to free them from the power of sin and the devil. He will return again to reign over His Kingdom.
The Holy Spirit- is the Helper that Jesus promised that comes to exalt Jesus, convict us of sin, regenerate our hearts, lead us to truth, and empower us to be witnesses of His Kingdom and resurrection.
The Bible.
The Bible is God’s Word to all people. Human authors wrote it under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth without any mixture of error and is completely relevant to our daily lives.
Sin.
All of mankind has sinned and the penalty is death, separation from God. Jesus Christ, God’s Son, paid the penalty of sin to reconcile mankind to God. Everyone who repents and trusts in Jesus for forgiveness of sin is forgiven and free from the curse of sin and death.
Salvation.
Man's only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ the Son of God.
Conditions to Salvation- Salvation is received through repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. By the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, being justified by grace through faith, man becomes an heir of God according to the hope of eternal life.
The Evidence of Salvation- The inward evidence of salvation is the direct witness of the Spirit. The outward evidence to all men is a life of righteousness and true holiness.
Baptism & Communion.
We believe in baptism by immersion and that it is a physical representation of a spiritual reality where the believer identifies with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe communion is open to all believers and we partake in communion as a church each week. As we partake in communion, it is important to judge ourselves rightly in light of the forgiveness and healing that is offered through the Lord's Table.
Biblical Marriage.
We believe God established marriage as a sacred institution between one man and one woman.
Image of God.
We believe that all humans are equal in dignity and value, bearing the image of God from the moment of conception, regardless of ethnicity or gender.
Second Coming.
We believe in the bodily, personal, second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the saints, the millennial reign of Christ, and the final judgment. Heaven and hell are real places. There will be a resurrection of the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting death. The final judgment will determine the eternal status of both the saints and the unbelievers, determined by their relationship to Jesus Christ. But according to His promise, we are looking for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells and where all of God’s children will reign forever.
Our History:
The Light House is a growing church in Spokane Valley, WA, planted in 2021.
We began as a house church devoted to prayer, Scripture, and fellowship. As the Lord grew our church family, we moved into the Valley Christian School Auditorium in July 2024, where we now gather each Sunday at 9AM.
Pastor Justin Barrs:
Justin Barrs serves as Lead Pastor of The Light House Church in Spokane Valley, WA.
His greatest desire is to be God’s friend and to lead others into friendship with Him.
He grew up in the church, sensed a call to ministry in high school, and later earned a degree in theology. After college, Justin and his wife Sam moved to Singapore to serve on Young Life staff, where they witnessed God’s power firsthand—including experiencing divine healing in their own family.
That season deepened Justin’s conviction: we must walk in the power of the Holy Spirit while staying firmly grounded in the Word of God.
After serving in Singapore and Burbank, God called the Barrs family to Spokane WA. In January 2021, Justin and Sam opened their home and started The Light House. Today, the church gathers at Valley Christian School Auditorium.
Justin also serves as Development Director at Valley Christian School and remains passionate about building strong, Christ-centered communities.
